Taking Stock #4 37/51 #LifeThisWeek. 5th Birthday Edition. 112/2021.

This Taking Stock is different as I am using images from the 5 years of this link up….

for which I am grateful  and that you, dear blogger and reader  play a very important part…

as it shares some of my stories…

Because back on this day in September 2016 where I posted this…I did not know what lay ahead. I

f you do open the link, you will see it’s a bit like a time capsule. 24 bloggers linked up. Sadly some no longer blog.

Is your name or blog there I wonder?

Present: September 2021.

My focus as a blogger who loves to connect is  summed up in these images on the home page.

I’ve chosen the months of May, September and December for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020….to take stock!

Whilst  I am not using my A-Z list this time round, I am pretty sure I am using images which spark:

GRATITUDE

LOVE

HEALTH

CONNECTION

APPRECIATION

CARE

MEMORIES

(no meaning in the colours…just used rainbow colours to give headings a different look!)

Back to: September 2016. When Link Up Began

My dear friend Tanya who makes my blog the colour-filled one it is, and helped me refresh the blog at the beginning of 2016, made this for the link up. Always grateful to her:

On 7th September 2021 I had great news from my head and neck cancer surgical team that because my mouth looks good inside, I don’t need to return to them for another YEAR and that visit will be my last. I can scarcely believe it. Yes, so grateful of course and yes to all the support many here have given me….so here’s to good health for us all: Click on the link, please:

https://youtu.be/N91kCMHTzEA

Thank you for being here, whether from the start of the link up or as the years have gone on.

Delighted to announce that I will continue my Monday Link Up for 2022.

I have the plans in readiness for a different set of ‘optional prompts’. I have shared them with one blogger already to get a feel for how they might work out and they should do well. As usual they are optional. I will publish a separate post about this in October-November.

Meanwhile:

Stay well

Stay covid-free

And Be Fully Vaccinated (if you can and health permits)

May we all have greater freedoms of places to visit and be in the near future.

Denyse.

Link Up #257. 5 Years Old.

* Feel free to go with the prompt for the week to add your ‘take’ on the prompt. Or not.

* Please do stay to comment on my post as I always reply. It’s a kind connection I value as a blogger!

* Check out what others are up to: Leave a comment on a few posts, because we all love our comments, right!

* Add a link back to this blog in your post somewhere, or on your sidebar or let others know somewhere you are linking up to this blog’s Life This Week.

*Posts deemed by me, the owner of the blog & the link-up, to be unsuitable for my audience will be deleted without notice. These may include promotions, advertorials, sales and any that are overly religious or political or in any way offensive in nature.

  1. Congratulations, Denyse, on the 5th birthday of your Life This Week link-up and the great news from your HNC team! Five years of hosting a weekly link-up is a huge accomplishment. I’m about 80% into my first year of a weekly link-up and I know what a commitment it is. I started my blog in October 2016 so I wasn’t at your first LTW link-up. Thank you for hosting. Have a wonderful week!

    • Thank you kindly Natalie. Your blog is coming up to its fifth birthday! Congratulations.

It was a good news week last week for my health and looking forward with only ONE planned appointment in a year still amazes me!

I do think you understand and appreciate the time and care it takes to host a link up and send my best to you as you move towards the first anniversary.

      Take care

      Denyse

  2. Such wonderful news Denyse from your HNC Team. Also what an achievement hosting your Life this Week link-up for 5 years! That must be a record. Thanks for the opportunity to link up with you each week.#lifethisweek

    • Yes Sue it was, as I said in the little video both a shock and surprise! News like that can do that to a person.

Thank you for your linking up as you do and for being a blog link up host for the times you and Leanne did this.

Not sure about a record because for quite a long time my friend Jess did one called IBOT..short for I Blog on Tuesdays and Sammie hosted her Weekend One. There were back then a link up most days of the week!

Take care, and hope you have not pulled up too sore today.

      Denyse.

  3. I was there in the beginning, and posting on the prompt of Beginnings! I am soooooo glad you are continuing. I was worried you were announcing ‘retirement’. I might steal your rainbow words for a post too (as I’m getting very negative re lockdown/covid and that must be a total bore for everyone to read).
Love the Dream Big Photo. You should use that as your thumbnail.
Happy Birthday – I hope the little pressie arrives today (Though Australia post seems to be doing it’s own thing at the moment…so who knows?).
As you know,I love the link up and I love the prompts. Always good to streatch into areas by someone else’s design.

    • Thank you for being there my friend…and you too would share similar memories to me, about Jess’ IBOT and more…so many link ups for ages in the Australian blogging community. We were spoiled for choice!

The dream big photo was an awesome one…I like your idea but I have also moved past that notion now…I am actually enjoying a life filled with…”less” and “few” since so much of my time involved appointments and concern about my health.

Enjoying taking the days as they come. And yes here’s to another year of Life This Week…

So far no mail but will let you know when it lands. Thank you. Very kind.

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  4. Denyse, congratulations for 5 years of hosting this link-up! I don’t see my name on that first link-up post but I’m sure I started joining in soon after as I know I’ve been linking up for several years now (though not always every week). Thank goodness for you and your linkup or where would we be? I enjoy being part of a blogging community and without linkups that really isn’t possible so thank you! Also – I am so happy for you that you got good news on your last doc visit. That is fantastic news!! Hope you have a wonderful week. xoxo

    • Min, I am sure you were around blogging because we would catch up with Jess’ IBOT and more…and yes to not everyone posts each week. It’s fine.

It is, however, for me. a great space in which to catch up and I am so glad you do find that as well.

Yes to this Link Up staying on in 2022.

Thank you so much for your kind words and good wishes about my health. The blogging community has been such a caring one for me.

      Take care,

      Denyse

  5. Congratulations on your great news from your HNC team. I watched the video and felt so happy for you. Big congrats also on the anniversary of this link up. I was blogging at the time but hadn’t found the link up. I’m so glad I did as it’s given my much joy each Monday. I’m really pleased that you plan to continue in 2022

    • Oh Jen, that is a kind and lovely thing to say about the link up. I enjoy the hosting and catching up with friends each week too.

Yes to my good news re HNC. Tomorrow I will be hearing back from Cate (she was a woman of courage this year!) about the CT results…which I suspect will be fine. It still feels slightly weird to have no more health checks for a year…

Glad you found this link up and continue to join in when you can. Loved your tulips too!

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  6. Fabulous news all round Denyse, on the 5th birthday of your link up, your HNC news and that you’re3 continuing your linkup into 2022! Loved seeing and hearing you on the video. Thanks for all you do and I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane you took us on in your post today! Keep being wonderful 🙂

    • Thank you dear Debbie for being such a regular and enthusiastic link-er upper too!!

Good news for me to decide to continue into 2022.

Ready to reduce blogging but not ready to stop…that is for sure,

How kind your words are! Mwah!

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  7. Hi Denyse – I missed out on being at the first party, but I’ve been linking for a long time now! Congrats on reaching 5 years – certainly a bit achievement in Link Parties – particularly since you maintained it throughout your diagnosis, treatment and recovery (that was huge!) Also really, really happy to hear your latest news on being cancer free – may you stay that way for the many years ahead xxx

    • Thanks Leanne, I am delighted that you found the link up and you have been a keen and encouraging supporter too.

I think the value for the blog for me when I was going through the tough times with my HNC was the distraction factor. Blogging, writing and commenting, sharing images all became a good routine and a way not to be cancer-centred.

Here’s to more connection in 2022.

      Take care

      Denyse.

  8. You’ve done so well to keep the link up running! I found it so hard to run one and gave up very quickly. Not my thing to run it haha.

    • Thanks Vanessa.

Yes it work but I also find it a great distraction too. Particularly in those times when I needed not to focus on HNC and treatments.

It gives me a chance to connect ‘socially’ each week and I am someone who needs that. I miss being able to connect in real life for now so the blog is even more important.

      Take care,

      Denyse

  9. Yay for your good news from the doctor – I was so happy to hear! I loved the trip down Memory Lane – what a crazy ride it’s been! Having run a link up myself, I know the time and effort it takes so thank you SO much for being the hostess with the mostest and keeping us all connected. Five years is an amazing achievement!

    • Thanks dear Sammie. You sure do know the work of a link up but as I have said to some, it’s my chance to connect socially with people when distance (and now covid) prevent that.

I am a sociable person but I also needed distraction during some of the tougher times in the HNC weeks, months and years so this has been it!

Bloggers who become friends…doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you for being one!

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  10. Congrats on the linky birthday and the HNC news is THE BEST!!! My yearly mammogram and surgeon appointment is coming up next month and if all goes well I believe she will not want to see me again although I will continue to have yearly mammograms.

I agree re greater freedoms etc. Here’s hoping xo

    • Oh Ness, let’s hope that is good news for you too. I know about the ‘worry’ factor even though there may be no symptoms. Fingers crossed for you my friend!

Thanks for your kind wishes about my news.

I am very glad you are blogging again too.

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  11. Hi Denyse, well done for keeping the Linkup going for so long. I’m back after about 7 weeks off! I very much doubt whether I’ll be able to take part every week because life has become very busy. It’s always nice to catch up with what everyone is doing though. I do still keep up with many of the bloggers on social media. Take care, Christina

    • Welcome back, Christina.

I so understand “life” getting busier and it can take us a while to know that we need to take care of ourselves first and you are doing this.

Blogging helped you in those times of being away from work because you were getting treatment and needed time for recovery.

It’s good to see you again but even better to see the way in which you are caring for your health too.

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  12. Well done on five years of blogging and hosting! That’s surely a lot of time and effort that’s gone into that. Thanks for your work, and well done on your good results.

    • Thanks so much Christine. I am so pleased to be hosting the link up which gives me a chance to connect with people each week.

      Take care,

just heard about your extended lockdown…

      Denyse.

      • Yes, bit of a blow. I really thought Canberra would nip it in the bud and sadly that hasn’t happened and too many people who can’t do the right thing. We also have people continuing to bring in different versions from NSW. At least we’re killing it with our vaccination rates! Still, there’s plenty left to do around the house.

        • Tough one isn’t it? Sadly people want to break rules and move around. We know of many who thought travelling back and forth from Sydney to holiday homes on the central coast was OK.

I am sorry you missed your special time in Qld.

Sure do hope this eventually sorts itself out.

Just heard my prosthodontist check (for my upper prosthesis) is cancelled for this year. Mind you there is a part of me that was not keen on going into the Westmead Health Precinct so am ‘glad’. And fortunate that everything in my mouth is going well.

          Yep to painting more…

          Take care
          Denyse

  13. It’s always good to hear from you and see your pictures, Denyse! Impressive that the link-up has been going for five years! Well done!

  14. Denyse, congratulations on five years of doing this blog and the many connections then and now that you have fostered! Congratulations too on such a good report on your HNC. I don’t get here as often as I would like, yours is one of only 3 link ups that I participate in, can’t imagine how one could do more, and seldom able to do all three in the same week, but so appreciate being welcomed here. My writing ttends to be sporadic due to life issues, not fully retired, and hubby’s surgeries and general medical needs, but it is a great outlet and connection that I value. Blessings for the day. Michele

    • Welcome back…I have missed your words and company Michele but I also understand “life” and stuff too. Not good to read about illnesses and surgeries. I know how much they impact us as partners too.

I hope things begin to improve over time.

Thanks for your kind words about this blog and its link up connections too. I enjoy the company of like minds each week as we connection via words and images.

Yes to my good news. Today it was confirmed that the CT done of head, neck and chest is clear.
Learning what I can do…without worry and what’s next on the list…is interesting.

      Take care,

see you here whenever you get the chance!

      Denyse.

  15. Congrats on 5 years of the link up! I wish I had been here from the very beginning.

Denyse values & reads every comment written, thank you. There is always a reply.
