Share Your Snaps.#10. 50/51.#LifeThisWeek.100/2020.

The last, last lucky last post of Sharing Your Snaps in 2020.

I hope you have enjoyed this optional prompt as much as I have. It returns in 2021 every fifth week.

Every 5th Week

Mine is…about “ME” gosh. How different. LOL.

OK, it’s a series of Birthday Girl Photos…close as I could get anyway…to celebrating:

Denyse. 30 November Girl.

The post on my actual birthday: 30.11. paying tribute to my parents. They had me when they were 24 (Mum) 25 (Dad) This photo is from about 20 years ago.

I think I am 2 or 3 here.

Some images are better in full size!

At my 70th. Surrounded by the people who mean most to me.

With Dad (97 in Jan ’21)

I’ve had massive changes to my appearance thanks to oral cancer, then the reconstruction of my upper mouth, I have stayed rather ‘thinner’ than most of my adult years. Sometimes, I need something like now, a collage from birthdays, to notice this for myself. And accept I look well…and that I am doing well too.

A little aside – in photos of me turning 68 and 69 I have tried to blow out the candles. I cannot do this easily any more. My mouth, thanks to its reconstruction, cannot form the shape requires for this. It is the same for kissing…and blowing up a balloon and drinking via a straw. No can do. Interesting side-effects of my reconstruction and life moving on!

And I am incredibly grateful to be here and be well.

Happy Snapping.

Denyse.

  1. What a great collection!! It’s interesting seeing the difference in the years. You really hit your style around 38 – that’s how you look now…Have a wonderful xmas, and a great break. I’ll be gone for a bit but back in Feb.

    • Thank you Lydia.

It was an interesting exercise for me to do.

Happy times ahead for you I hope as a break from routine and more is on the horizon.

See you back here when you are ready!

Your support in 2020 has been outstanding and is always appreciated.

      Denyse.

  2. I have always loved looking at images of people’s lives. They are very interesting.

    • Thanks Jody, personal blogging is a good fit for that.

May I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

I know this year will be different without your Mum,

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  3. Great photos Denyse. I’m very impressed that you could pull together a collection like this. I’m sure I would struggle to find so many photos I especially like the photos of young Denyse

    • Thanks so much Jennifer. I was (and still am I guess) the one who took the photos and as school teachers (and principals) we would be given complimentary photos each year.

I was big on making family scrapbook albums for a while. I need to say my photos are somewhat organised now in bags within a pullout drawer system. I took them out of albums that were deteriorating.

Now when a grandchild has a birthday I add a small collage from their lives using those pics.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  4. Denyse, What a nice photo gallery you put together. Thanks for sharing your photos over the years. Have a wonderful week!

    • Thanks so much Natalie. I feel privileged to be able to find so many of the photos to add!

I hope you are staying well and safe. Not a good time for many in the Northern Hemisphere.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

  5. A fabulous collection of birthday shots Denyse, you’ve done well to have such a great record over the years! I love them all especially the glamorous 18 year old Denyse! I’ve gone with a birthday post today to share as well.

I’ve just updated my birthday post with what happened on my actual birthday and it isn’t what you might think – 2020 just keeps on giving! The year is almost over 🙂

    • Thanks so much Deb.

I have always been the record keeper and photographer and being in schools we always got a free set of portraits each year. Should see my changing hairstyles!!

I was pretty cool back aged 18 and my outfit was formal but it was a jumpsuit. Very special night with my then boyfriend. No he did not go on to marry me.

Looking forward to reading your post but guessing it’s not all good…..

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  6. Great birthday shots there Denyse! I love that you also went back to childhood photos. Thanks for taking us on this trip down memory lane.

    • Thanks so much Sanch.

This year seemed to be the year for me to do that. It’s been a big year of changes – mostly for the good – so I wanted to continue my gratitude.

Dad gave me and my brother our childhood photos ages ago and of course, me being the first…I had the most. Sshhh.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  7. Well if we’re all going to be Covid safe, there’ll be no candle blowing for the foreseeable so you don’t have to worry about that! Loved all the pics, you look so happy in all of them – and your smile is as fabulous as ever (even if your mouth has undergone “a bit” of reconstruction.) You’re such a trooper and sharer of joy, I hope this trip around the sun brings you good health and much happiness!

    • YOU are so right Sammie.

      No candle blowing recommended.

Thanks for your kind words. I will always be a smiler and in fact, just between you and me, it helped me go from “no word of the year in 2021 to I think I have my word of the year now for 2021”

Sending those wellness and happiness wishes right back to you and yours too.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  8. What a fabulous series of photos – your smile comes through in them all.

    • Thank you so much.

I take credit for keeping loads of photos from childhood to now in a very rough but accessible way of storage.

Compliments about my smile gratefully received.

Hope you are not blown away nor flooded out Jo.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  9. Happy birthday a little bit late, Denyse! I enjoyed seeing your life through photos. They are certainly pictures of a life well-lived. You have such a beautiful smile and a wonderful family. I hope your holidays are happy! Thank you for hosting this year.

    • Thanks so much Laurie.

I look at the blog as a life record now too.

Interestingly it does show my ups and downs in life because I am prepared to share my vulnerabilities.

I have really enjoyed connecting with you and send all the best holiday and wellness wishes across the ocean…

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

  10. Loved the montage of your life Denyse – and also interesting about the change to your lip/mouth structure and what it stops you doing. It’s amazing how our bodies work so well, and then one little change impacts lots of other things. My physio told me that being able to hop on my injured leg was the ultimate goal and I thought “What?! I can hop now!” and you know what…. I can’t! Not even a millimetre off the ground! So weird and now all I want to do is hop!

    • Thanks so much for your kind words Leanne.

Yes, so true about our bodies.

Affect one part with a cut or an injury and it cannot be easily replicated.

We do take so much for granted until…as you found out.

I broke my ankle but until I got to the GPs for Xray and opinion, my husband helpfully said “hop” Ahhh. If I hopped it jarred the sore ankle so crazily. Anyway, it was broken and I was ‘wheeled’ back to the car on an office chair.

I hope your recovery goes well. I understand the frustrations big time. Before my leg had its fibula and some skin/flesh removed, I was asked by my surgeon ‘do you play sport?’ It was a weird question at the time and I said no. It was much further after my surgery I found out why…my right leg cannot ‘pivot’ or turn easily. I even need to remember this now as I might want to quickly move in a different direction.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  11. I love your photos Denyse. Such a trip down memory lane for you! I don’t think I have many photos of me. I’m usually the one taking the photos. I’m looking forward to more happy snaps in 2021.

    • Thank you Veronica and good to see you back here.

Lots of times I too have been the photographer but a long time ago I read words along the lines of how might kids remember their mum if she did not get in the picture more!

So, I am much more likely to have photos that tell my story.

See you back here in 2021.

Thanks for all your support in 2020.

I know there is one more post to go for Life This Week though!!

      Denyse.

  12. What a fabulous set of photographs you have put together to illustrate your life Denyse. That same twinkling in the eyes you had at 14 has stayed with you all along the way.
Thanks for giving me/us the opportunity to share our posts with a wider audience and also to be able to share yours with ours via the weekly link on our Life this Week post.
    Take care
    Cathy

    • Thanks so much Cathy.
