Self-Care Stories #5. Gratitude. 34/51. #LifeThisWeek. 68/2020.

An update from Denyse: today I am having more surgery to manage some infection that has taken hold in an area of my abdominal wound from 21 July surgery. Sigh. However, I will be glad to get it done, and unlikely to pop back to comment until I am home. I should only be in overnight. Send all good healing wishes, please!!

Writing about self-care is a regular optional prompt.

I wrote last time here about self-care in COVID-19 times.

The COVID-19 times are not going away any time soon, so this time I have broadened my view to remembering my word for 2020:

G R A T I T U D E

This blog post: so hopeful, and giving me (and readers) guidance on how I was going to find gratitude each day for:

3 6 6 D A Y S of 2 0 2 0.

Then mid-way through the year, quite a reality check! Here is what I wrote then…..

A word (or more) from me:

How did I, or have I, tried to find gratitude in each and every day to fulfil my goal of an instagram post every day?

I did, and have but on some days it was much harder than others.

These are but some of my gratitude-based photos (not all were shared on instagram) that remind me:

EVERY

SINGLE

DAY

of what I am grateful for.

So, my self-care remains in good form as long as I am also doing my utmost to find gratitude. It can be obscure but I am a determined person and like to think I see things through!

Now, how about a little self-care from me to you…via a short video taken last week at my favourite spot: Soldiers Beach carpark. Looking north to Norah Head Lighthouse.

Take care everyone one…self-care always first.

Denyse.

  1. Goodness me! I hope you’re okay and not in too much pain! Take care and keep up posted./

    • Thank you. Not really in physical pain but wound not healing properly meant another go under anaesthetic to clean area out and add a VAC pressure dressing. It has me tethered now to a machine via a long plastic loop which over time is applying negative pressure (I do not really understand it) and sucking out what is not meant to be there. I am told faster healing will ensue. Will be having first dressing change on Thursday and suspect it will be painful as I have been warned.

  2. Denyse, I’m sending you all my good healing wishes. Hope your surgery went well and you’re recovering comfortably. Take care. #lifethisweek

  8. I am grateful for you Denyse! Even on the days when you may find it hard to see through the fog you always attempt to peer through and find gratitude. I think you epitomise that saying that goes something like ‘every day may not be good but there is something good in every day’ and I am always grateful for the reminder.

Hoping today goes smoothly and you are home tomorrow.

    Sandra Xx

    • That is so lovely Sandra. There are days that are much harder than others to find gratitude, but find it I must! I do.

  11. Sending caring thoughts your way Denyse and hoping all is resolved for you soon. Thanks for the beach video, as someone who lives a long way away from the beach I always enjoy seeing and hearing it! I love your attitude of gratitude and you always lead by example. Take care.xx

    • I am so glad you are enjoying the beach ones, just as I enjoy your ‘bush’ ones. And yes, my challenge to find gratitude each day is working….even though some days are harder than others.

  12. Hi Denyse – so glad you’re remembering your gratitutude and self-care. I’m finding that my “self” is feeling a bit aimless atm – sort of at a bit of a loose end. I’m busy trying to figure out what the universe is trying to tell me about where to head to next, but not being very successful. So my intention is to stop pushing so hard and to just chill out and wait – patience is a virtue.

    • Oh I so get that too. Change and transition is hard but at some intervals it is emotional too. I hope, over time, things do work out for you.

Patience: I think I am being sent messages to remember this in my life!! Being a patient it can be hard to remember patience but I have to if I am to recover well.

I do think a lot about each minute of the day has the same value of time whether the day is fun, worrying or boring..it’s the same. We cannot rush it nor try to stay with it too long.

That helps me quite a bit.

      Take care,
      Denyse.

  13. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery Denyse. Take care, regards Christina

  14. Hi Denyse I hope you recover well and take care of yourself. So much to be grateful for in your life isn’t there? I think your images are so powerful. xx

    • Thank you, Sue, I love that you have taken the time to notice the images. I am such a visual person that I like the meaning being brought out too.
