Self-Care: Share Your Story #4. 28/51. #LifeThisWeek. 77/2019.
This week I will be completing week 8 of a ten week “moving for wellness” from the N.S.W. Department of Education as part of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. I was kindly allowed entry as a retired principal …and it has been such a good boost to my physical and emotional health. I got a pleasant suprrise last week…I am doing better than I ever thought I might.
For this week’s self-care story it’s about:
- finding a better balance between ‘doing for others’ and ‘doing for me’
- learning about something new to help me use my phone with greater ease
- making myself get into the outdoors more..no matter what the weather
- allowing time for morning teas out and meeting people and loving it
- daring to go somewhere challenging & despite some difficulties emerge from it with greater self-confidence
- accept that to grow, I still need to remind myself to do the hard things. Posts about that here and here.
- returning to art-ing as a daily and creative habit after some time away and loving it more because of that
- being well….because I have such a great team who have cared for me since I got cancer two years ago (posts here) and it’s UP TO ME to stay this way
- Inside here are 3 books full of my original colouring sheets: donated to Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. My last donation.
- With WHNCDay coming, I share my better eating routine!
- Down the stairs to the rockpools: and had to climb back up!
- The iphone addition: a pop socket costing $4 from lovely Kirsten at Bettyquette. Saves your hand!
- Making time to meet friends is very important! Thanks Kirsty.
- Visiting Sydney overnight & I found it very hard to find something to eat. So lucky I had my biscuits & cheese.
- I am forever grateful to all of these people who care for ‘my mouth’ and me!
- Getting back into Index Card a Day so good after a year off
- I admit, my fitness is improving thanks to the Apple Watch
- Learning to BE…at the beach
- Even on days I would rather ‘stay home’ I get out…always worth it.
- MY darling hairdresser has closed up shop for the best of reasons: a new baby (a sad loss last year when her first born died after 3 days). Together we have been through a lot. This is ‘my look’ for next person I find to cut my hair.
- In May 2019 with my Professor who is delighted with how well I am.
- From the spot where my husband and I had our ‘date morning tea’ at Toronto NSW.
What’s been your level of self-care lately?
Denyse.
You can link up something old or new, just come on in. * Please add just ONE post each week! * Feel free to go with the prompt for the week to add your ‘take’ on the prompt. Or not. * Please do stay to comment on my post as I always reply and it’s a bloggy thing to do! * Check out what others are up to by leaving a comment because we all love our comments, right! * Add a link back to this blog in your post somewhere. I don’t have a ‘button’ so a link in text is fine! *Posts deemed by me, the owner of the blog and the link-up, to be unsuitable for my audience will be deleted without notice. * THANK you for linking up today!
Next Week’s Optional Prompt: 29/51 Winter: Like/Loathe 22/7/19.
I will not be following the optional prompt as I have been remiss in updating Telling My Story, so I will write the next post for that instead.
Congrats, Denyse, on your Sporting award! You’re wise to take care of yourself and do things to expand your comfort zone. Have a beautiful week!
Thanks Natalie. I reckon getting over this cancer has definitely been about learning to move out of “my” comfort zone.

I would class moving as the most important thing from a self-care viewpoint, so congratulations on your achievement. Have a great week.
Yes and who knew? Actually I ‘knew’ but it has been a great motivation to keep moving and increase it with the watch AND the Premier’s Sporting Challenge happening in the same week. I will continue recording my steps as I really like seeing the progress.
As I have foot and some leg issues on the right side so I do have to remember not to ‘over do’ too.
Cheers

Congrats, Denyse on the sporting award and for your commitment to trying new things and pushing your boundaries!

Thanks so much SSG! The 3 rings joined up last night so that was fun. I also have to remember that if it doesn’t happen I don’t need to be self-critical. I have to care for the part of me that are still sore!

Congrats on your sporting achievements – what a lovely surprise! I must say I am a recent convert to the pop socket, I got given one in the States and only just put it on my phone and it’s been a game changer! I too have been trying to get moving and got into my groove either at the gym or outside for a run. I feel loads better for it too! Hope you have a great week!
Isn’t it funny re the pop socket? I had no idea of what it did but when Kirsten was selling them as part of Bettyquette I decided to buy and it does save my hand for sure.
Moving more is the way to go. I am enjoying it for sure and glad you are too.
Off to the prosthodontist tomorrow and my mouth is very sore, stretched and I am not sure of what his opinion will be. Sigh. Shall wait.

Great work Denyse!! A sporting award at any age is not to be sneezed at 🙂 I’ve shared an older (slightly sarcastic) post which helped ease my mind at the time, blogging truly is a form of self-care!
Thanks Debbie. I look forward to reading your post.
When I showed my husband my award he kind of laughed…(sportsman – many awards ) and I said “NO, it is the first time for me”. He was pleased for me then.
Happy winter week ahead…keep warm.

My self care has been giving myself the time and space for the temporary changes I have going on. For once, not over thinking, over scheduling or putting undue pressure on myself.
I am applauding your self-care. Really really good news and I hope by the end of today, you have your car back.
Cheers

Well done on your award. I need to do something re my fitness so am hoping this has motivated me!
Well, by all means take my award and be motivated. You have received sporting awards before I suspect as has my husband but this truly was special for me.
I like seeing your recent outdoor shots by the water.
Lovely place where you live…pity about the work thing. I suspect it will all come together over time.
Best wishes for success.

Hi Denyse – one of the many blessings of blogging is that it encourages us to keep doing new things (so we have something to write about!) So many of the Midlife bloggers out there are living very full lives and that’s so encouraging – and beats sitting around feeling dull, colourless and boring!
Ha, I hadn’t thought about blogging that way but true enough it is good to have an audience to share who is interested.
Thanks Leanne. Your comments on Women of Courage are much appreciated. Not all women have had the chance to do as you have and I am pleased you could.

Congratulations! Have a great week!
Thanks so much.
Denyse.
My self-care: I’ve just started exercising again. I’m really enjoying it and although I’m not up to daily work outs just yet I’m doing way more than I used to!

Isn’t that good. I started very slowly doing the afternoon walk and now I “can’t” not do the walk.
Well-done both of us!!
