NEWS! #LifeThisWeek: Becomes #LifeThisMonth. #LinkUp. 12/2022.

News from Denyse at Denyse Whelan Blogs.

Since September 2016, I have been hosting a link up each Monday of the year, except the last week of any year, called:

Life This Week.

It became a part of MY life as a blogger for sure as I had no idea that within 8 months of this event, I would be diagnosed with head and neck cancer in May 2017.

My blog, my link up and the community that is OUR community here at Life This Week has meant the world to me…..and then

in

2022

I began

to feel the effects of

doing so much.

Even though I had chosen to reduce my blog output to once a week, I started to feel tired and that I had literally run out of stories but it was more than that, my energy to keep the link up in the way I always intended was waning.

What to do?

I considered a few options.

I even started trimming my blog’s posts so that I could see the end of an era in sight as I have been blogging since 2010 and then I stopped.

I was caught up in a mood from my revelation last week about grief. The post is here.

I was also physically and emotionally still in recovery from doing so much towards the end of the year so I….

  • Gave serious thought to closing the blog.
  • Giving away the link up.
  • STOPPING what had become a regular and valuable routine in my life.

But now I know that the thinking and planning was all for a good reason, because there would be a way of working things out, and with some advice and support from blogging friends

and my husband ( I think he was wondering, what the heck will D do if she doesn’t have blogging….) I let time pass (my great strategy) and decided that:

YES. I did want to continue to blog.

YES. I did want to host a link up.

YES. I did want to self-care too.

YES. A new link up ONCE a month was just right!

Now it’s the FINAL #lifethisweek link up on 28th February 2022….

And it’s welcome to Life This Month, where the first post will be on the second Monday (of each month):

14th March.

There will be the same ways to add your post, via my link up.

I will be commenting back at your blog later in the week.

The ‘rules’ for the link up is for you to comment on my post that month, and so on.

The dates for the rest of the year are here:

Life This Week: Becomes Life This Month.

  1. Hi Denyse, this is sort of a side note from all the content in you coffee post today (sorry for that) but I love the face of your blog. The nature picture in the background and then all the patches of colour. Thanks for the virtual coffee.

    • I am so glad you dropped in to tell me this because I always HOPE the colours and background are as pleasing to others as to me!!

      Take care,

      Denyse,

  2. Denyse, Congratulations on hosting Life This Week since September 2016 and now starting Life This Month in March! I hope you continue enjoy blogging while taking great care of yourself. Thank you for linking up with #weekendcoffeeshare. You and other bloggers are welcome to link up with me on my blog any weekend. No obligation to join every week. Have a wonderful week ahead!

    • Thank you so much Natalie for your kind words and support.

Looking after myself is becoming a higher priority, something I needed to do.

You are an inspiration for self-care!

I will be keeping to a routine but also won’t get overly concerned if I want to write a more spontaneous blog post.

Congratulations on your continuation of Weekend Coffee Share into 2022.

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  3. Well done on making a tough decision Denyse. I am so glad you are continuing to blog and offer the linkup on a monthly basis now. Looking forward to a new schedule with you 🙂

    • Thanks so much Debbie, and for your kindness and support as I made the choices to continue how it would best work for me…and maintaining a community too.

      Denyse.

  4. Hi Denyse – I’m glad you didn’t give it all away – we would have missed you! I know what it’s like to hit a blogging wall and to wonder whether to give it all away. I’ve gone from 3 posts a week, to 2 posts a week, to 1 post a week, to turning off my comments….and to finally thinking 1 post a week with comments is doable for this time of my life. I’ll probably change again down the track! What I’ve come to see is that bloggers come and go and that’s okay – we need to do what feels right for us and if blogging fits into that then it’s great, if not, then we’re always free to adjust. I’m glad you’ve found your sweet spot (for now) and I’ll be linking every month. xx

    • Thanks Leanne for your kind words and your own examples shared. I needed the time to consider options…and chat on-line with some trusted blogging friends (thank you!) and now feel very comfortable moving forward rather than pressure.

Now I just need to remember to blog and make the link up for 14 March!!

      Denyse

  5. Hi Denyse – just trying to catch up on things in the blogging world. I can totally understand this decision! I’m glad you didn’t let it go all together though. I have felt my enthusiasm for my blog wane as life outside my blog has become more demanding and tiring. Circumstances and priorities change over time. I’m not ready to let go of my blog either but I just can’t pour as much energy and time into it as I used to at this point in my life. I look forward to linking up with your Life this Month! xo

    • Thanks Min, I think your health and then caring for your Mum is a big set of life circumstances. Now of course, you are in Brissie where you are experiencing the effects of the weather and can’t as I just read check on your Mum.

      Hopefully it will settle soon.

I too did not want to stop blogging because I know I need the outlet and to keep in touch with blogging friends.

Thank you for your kind words too.

      Denyse.

  6. I think Life This Month is the best of both worlds – you get to blog (which I’m sure you’d miss if you didn’t do it) and you get the DT (Denyse Time) that you need. Bonus points for us as we continue to party with you on a monthly basis! See you next month!

    • Thanks Sammie, I agree. It took me some time, and consideration, to get to this point and now I am glad!

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  7. I think this is a great way to keep the link up and community feel going for your while still relaxing a bit about the work side of keeping it going.

  8. I think it’s a good balance to strike – and like I said, if monthly is too often, try seasonally!

    • Denyse Whelan says:

Thanks so much Vanessa. I will remember your good advice…so far loving the notion of the month thing but always open to change now I have overcome this one!!

      Take care,

      Denyse.

  9. Apologies for being so late Denyse – life this week certainly caught up with me as a result of rain and dealing with that in both personal life and the day job. Anyhoos, very glad you’ve taken this option & I’ll be sure to link up.

    • Denyse Whelan says:

Apologies not needed! It’s been ONE big strange and awful time with this weather event…as they say. Hope you get some “me” time too! Denyse

  10. Oh, I feel so much the same way. I enjoy blogging but it is extremely time consuming. And I am a very poor friend as far as leaving comments on friends’ blogs or responding to comments on my blog because LIFE just gets in the way. I had planned to be home all week this week and 3 of my 5 days, I was busy and not able to do anything I had planned to do.

A once a month link up is going to be much more manageable. And you can write blog posts in between whenever the mood strikes. For me, it is hard to write posts days ahead of time because life is so fluid. I might be doing/feeling one way one day and totally the opposite a few days later. So pretty much I write and publish at the same time. And that is hard, too.

    • Denyse Whelan says:

I hear you on so much of this Leslie. Thank you for your thoughts. I am enjoying the shift already and my life without cancer appointment visits and my weekly blog link up commitment is already opening up for me to enjoy more of what I can and love. Blogging will always be part of my life, but as I seek newer ways to connect with less pressure (self-made!) I will enjoy it more.

Your life seems very busy with caring for many right now and that is hard! Life is like that.

      Take care,

      Denyse.
