Taking Stock 4. #LifeThisWeek. 36/52. 2018.87.

Taking Stock 4. #LifeThisWeek.36/52.  2018.87.

When each 9th week comes around I sit for a bit before completing Taking Stock. I like to do the prompts all at once.

This snapshot was completed on Friday 31 August 2018.

I never look at previous ones before completing the current one as I do not want to be reminded.

Here are some of the most recent: July 2018, April 2018, February 2018,

I will do that perhaps after this is published as I do like to see my changes and also what stays the same.

Thanks again to Pip for her prompts. She blogs here.

Making: a lot of bookmarks to send to Lisa at The Big Hug Box for inclusion in her special gifts to cancer patients.

Cooking: a combo of a biscuit recipe: a packet mix with salted caramel added to a mix of my own with choc chips: voila: choc chip salted caramel cookies to eat…and to give as gifts to people next week.

Drinking: a selection of hot drinks that come in sachets: hot chocolate, cappucino, mint chocolate, caramel latte & butterscotch.

Reading: The Sydney Morning Herald every.single.day….and Rick Morton’s One Hundred Years of Dirt. I love Rick and his writing and met him in 2011 at the first Aussie Bloggers conference and he interviewd me some years later for an article in the Australian about grandparenting.

Wanting: to learn more about hand lettering

Looking: at other people’s hand lettering on-line and it is so good…but also need to remember, “am left-handed” so check those people out via Instagram

Playing: lots of old Show Tunes: from Mary Poppins to My Fair Lady to The Producers to High Society and I SING along.

Wasting: little these days, unless it is food that spoils because I have not been successful in eating it but it is happening less

Sewing: I wonder why I do not just leave this one out…really, I need to!

Wishing: that as we age, and next year is the big 7 0 for us, that our health remains reasonable. Big wish I think!

Enjoying: each other’s company more and more. T’is lovely after 47 plus years!

Waiting: for Monday (this will be posted by then) because I am seeing a very caring and lovely friend, and going to Hornsby to do so!

Liking: that I am finally oh so very confident to drive to Sydney most weeks to do what has to be done and succeed

Wondering: why people who drive FAST on the M1 (not me!) where the speed restrictions are in force never seem to get caught.

Loving: slow and cool winter into spring evenings and nights to snuggle in bed.

Hoping: that it rains where it is needed. Every bloody where, thank you!

Marvelling: that I can write something here today that others will read next week maybe on their computer or phone or tablet.

Needing: to remember that even if I “can” eat much more, I still want to wear my lovely summer clothes again!

Smelling: small diffusers I have around the house and they are not overpowering just pleasant.

Wearing: right now: long casual pants and a long sleeve top – cool weather!

Following: the “who will be our Prime Minister” this time next week memes

Noticing: that I can grow carnations! Win!

Knowing: I do the best I can to look after my mouth health because my prosthodontist tells me I am.

Thinking: how did I manage to deal with so much change as I got cancer and went through so many surgeries and on-going treatments?

Feeling: proud of myself for doing as well as I could and do still.

Bookmarking: episodes of Anh Do’s Art on iView

Opening: the door each morning and hoping the newspaper will have been delivered after a very inconsistent delivery pattern when we first moved here.

Giggling: at four of our wonderful grandchildren when they sent a short video to us recently. Miss them a LOT.

Feeling: loved and cared for by my husband

Have you taken stock recently?

Taking Stock 3. #LifeThisWeek 27/52. 2018.55.

When each 9th week comes around I sit for a bit before completing Taking Stock. I like to do the prompts all at once.

This snapshot was completed on Friday 29 June 2018.

I never look at previous ones before completing the current one as I do not want to be reminded.

I will do that perhaps after this is published as I do like to see my changes and also what stays the same.

Thanks again to Pip for her prompts. She blogs here.

Making: plans for creating 100 mandalas in one book by the end of 2018.

Cooking: fried rice – a family favourite by itself or as a meal accompaniment.

Drinking: coffee – double shot 3/4 small latte has taken over from the piccolo

Reading: Kylie Ladd’s The Way Back. Kylie is an Australia author who I support 100% and have met twice.

Wanting: cancer treatments to be D.O.N.E. but understanding not for quite a while yet.

Looking: outside and up…to the sky. I love clouds

Playing: Four plus – on the Ipad. My husband has a record of over 1300…me, just under 700. We are NOT competitive. Much.

Wasting: time on the phone to News Ltd and Fairfax to let them know their new delivery system by a private contractor is NOTHING like the one from the Newsagency.

Sewing: I actually did some sewing when a woollen thread on my new cardi got caught in my purse. My husband snipped it free, which then unravelled that section. Found the sewing basket and some thread and pulled it together but it’s now a ‘wear at home cardi’. A before-shot.

Wishing: that everyone with cancer is cured and the cancer is long gone as a disease. Doing my bit to contribute to those patients who are gifted a Big Hug Box by making bookmarks. Want to know more? Here’s the link.

Enjoying: my drives to wherever when I get to play my music, my podcasts or audible books

Waiting: for a parcel to arrive. If I dared go out, it would arrive, right?

Liking: this time in our lives

Wondering: how my 19 yo granddaughter will go surviving a full Winter seasons where she is working and living now with her boyfriend

Loving: life. It’s alright isn’t it?

Hoping: that more people are kinder to everyone they meet because as it is said “you never know what battle they may be waging.”

Learning

Marvelling: the resilience of my plants and flowers. Just a bit of water and some sunshine, along with some pruning and away they go again to delight me.

Needing: to remember how much I am loved and cared for, always.

Smelling: betadine, under my nose, where the teensy tiny hole is still there in a minor way (after 4th surgery, a stitch was placed there with the skin graft, and the first change of stent back in May, pushed the stitch out and small fissure appeared. We are hoping it closes by itself or it means… 5th surgery.

Wearing: my faves of jeans, navy striped top and navy lace ups.

Following: Hannah Gadsby’s story. I saw her Netflix performance and was “blown away”. Links here.

Noticing: that I can have the most wonderful and generous friend in Linda who sent this to me…overwhelmed by her generosity and thoughtfulness, let alone the hard work to get this to completion.

Knowing: I have lots of people who care about me and for me and it is just great.

Thinking: I need to get some more freckles (see coffee pic if unfamiliar with this Aussie choccie) today as they have become my latest comfort food

Feeling: That the anniversary of my 1st Surgery coming up on Friday will be a great reminder to me of how far I have come.

Bookmarking: Chris O’Brien’s book “Never Say Die”. I read it ages ago and gave it away, now as a patient in the hospital he dreamed of but his wife, Gail saw it come true I want to read it again so have it as a library copy.

Opening: mail. I still love opening mail.

Giggling: more smiling broadly (without top teeth) at our sweet granddaughter who face timed us with her Dad on her fifth birthday. We will celebrate with some cake in the school hols.

Taking Stock. #LifeThisWeek. 36/52. 2017.107.

It is always interesting to me to ‘take stock’ and again, some of my answers are similar to other times but THIS one mentions my health a lot more. I wonder why!! Thanks to Pip Lincoln here for the ‘taking stock’ words.

I hope you enjoy my run down for this week. Also, in case you missed it, the prompts for the remainder of 2017 are here and here! And one prompt (so far..) for 2018. I am a plan-ahead kind of gal.

Making : a mess in the laundry as I defrost the non frost-free freezer.

Cooking : not much today but will be making red meat-based dishes for me soon.

Drinking : more coffee than I have in ages and trying to have more water each day.

Reading: books! Finally I am back into books. Finished The Mummy Bloggers – a novel set in Australia in 2017.

Trawling: the internet for houses that we might buy ONE day …I think it is an obsession but I always want to be prepared.

Wanting: not much at all. No, that is a lie. I want to be planning something like a great holiday in my  our future.

Looking: quite self-conscious because of my mouth – post surgery – but….

Deciding: that is a small price to pay for being as cancer-free as any doctor can predict.

Wishing: for continued good health for me and for all my family and friends.

Enjoying: the peaceful ambience of living here.

Waiting: for my doctor’s appointment today to have a B12 injection as that and iron are very low since surgery and the fact I have not been able to eat meat since January.

Liking: our ‘newish to us’ GP who has been the BEST support to me since April 2017.

Wondering: if the summer will bring the dreadful conditions of heat waves it has in the past 12 months.

Loving: how art is my go-to for time out, creativity and mindfulness.

Pondering: tending not to ponder much these days.

Listening: to old-fashioned musicals on my CD player. My Fair Lady, Annie Get Your Gun and Oklahoma.

Considering: the cost of a frost-free upright freezer and then NOT…

Buying: one as they are around $800.

Watching: my sweet peas climb up to the top of the trellis I put on the back fence and…

Hoping: that by Sunday, 17 September, there will be at least one flower because it is 6 months since they were planted…to celebrate a granddaughter’s birthday even though we won’t see her, planting them and tending them reminds me of the years we cared for her.

Marvelling: at  nature in the garden EVERY single day.

Cringing: at this Federal Government and its complete lack of backbone on the same sex marriage issue so….

Needing: we all need to send back our opinion papers (not votes!) with YES ticked.

Questioning: my cancer & why. But there are no answers as I do not cross any boxes for why. So in those famous words: it is what it is

Smelling: the delightful perfume from parts of the front garden.

Wearing: clothes that actually fit me now.

Noticing: that I feel better in myself for taking the time to select clothing which fits and suits me.

Knowing: that it is important to feel and look well and that it is linked to self-acceptance and self-worth.

Trouble-shooting: nothing much these days but I still need to be aware of not rescuing people.

Thinking: that I am doing well for someone who was diagnosed with cancer just over 4 months ago.

Admiring: families of kids and babies who are found to have cancer. Nothing makes sense in my head for little people to get cancer.

Getting: my blog organised for next year’s Life This Week prompts.

Bookmarking: every book I have on the go right now. Using bookmarks made by me when I can too!

Opening: the conversations about dying with dignity where we can with family members as it is important to know loved ones’ wishes.

Closing: the door each evening as we settle in for a quiet and cosy night.

Feeling: incredibly grateful and blessed to be this well following my cancer surgery.

Dreaming: of our family coming together once more. It has not happened since early 2016.

Hearing: the bird song…every.single.day.

Celebrating: every day and every night of feeling well.

Pretending: it’s not something I do at all really. I am so not  poker player.

Embracing: life. Because it is GOOD!

And just in case you were wondering: here’s the way we voted on same sex marriage plebiscite in our house:

Thanks for reading thus far…and for joining in Life This Week!
