I Remember. 46/52. #LifeThisWeek 2018.117.

I Remember. 46/52. #LifeThisWeek 2018.117.

This post, originally written last week for Share Your Snaps was not sitting right for that prompt and then I saw this one.

I Remember.

I have noticed in the years past that I get tense, twitchy and tetchy in November. I used to think it was because I was tired and the end of the school year is nigh. I no longer have that reason. I now think and feel it is related to my birthday on the last day of November.

My birthday approaching brings a mixed bag of feelings:

  • sad (older)
  • contentment (glad to be here post cancer)
  • regret (not appreciating some of the people in my life more)
  • resentment (because some of those people, hello my parents, raised me in a way that I felt special BUT I perceived that was the case only if I was/am thin, achieving, managing financially)
  • anticipation of both negative and positive aspects of the day which celebrates me.

I know this might sound grouchy and somewhat mean-spirited but instead of pretending and pushing my November feelings and thoughts away, I have admitted them…and along with these pictures, may help heal me  for future Novembers.

November is:

  • my parents’ wedding anniversary
  • armistice day – this year 100 years since 11.11.1918
  • anniversary of my aunt’s early death
  • getting ready for Christmas
  • remembering my teaching/principal roles at this time of the year
  • my birthday

Do you have memories of any times which leave you somewhat like my birthday month does?
I am deliberately choosing to post about gratitude this November and so far these are the images.

This week I have been treated to one of my favourite colours ever.

Purple.

The colour purple. I love the ‘blue-purple’ more than the ‘red-purple.’ I asked my husband about his preference and I think he did not quite get my differentiation.

It’s purple in plants, flowers and of course, the wonderful jacaranda which is so pretty in November.

Enjoy!

Are you a fan of purple?

I love local places where purple has popped up. These photos were taken locally: at a nursery, on the street and in a park.

Have a great week everyone. I am off to Westmead today so will be back to comment later!

Views From Here. #LifeThisWeek 47/52. 2017.129.

I made a change to this title…to viewS from here! I also realised I had used this prompt before. Ah well.

In 2018 there will be a photo-based prompt called “Share Your Snaps” as part of #LifeThisWeek and it will be for each week ending in 0 or 5. i.e. 5/52 falls on Monday 29 January 2018 so add your post about anything or ones with photos or a mix of both!!

This post, for me, is a practice one but I am sure along the way I will change my ideas.

For today’s ViewS from Here, I looked back at November 2017 and found photos I had not posted on Instagram or my Facebook page. These tell the stories of my life on these days in November. Enjoy!

That my blogging friends and followers are my viewS from here.

I hope to see some of yours too.

As the year ‘winds down’ …and everyone is busier than usual, please come here and add an old post rather than think you need to follow the prompts!

No Christmas Day #LifeThisWeek.

But #LifeThisWeek for 2018 returns on….1.1.2018….with a retrospective of YOUR choice or an ‘old’ post from 2017.

I am sorry we can’t have a Christmas or End-Of-Year party but coming along and adding some comments and visiting others in ONE heck of a substitute.

I can eat cake!! I can make cake and share…with you virtually.

I hope the first week of December is treating you kindly.

Denyse.

Exams. #LTW10. 366/315.

In determining the {optional} prompt this week I went back down memory lane to:

NOVEMBERS I remember!

When I was in high school this month was always the end of year exams.

However, as the first cohort of the NSW Higher School Certificate it was especially memorable. The exam concludes earlier now than back in 1967.

Seeing the Jacaranda trees with their purple hue, knowing the Melbourne Cup was happening and my parents were celebrating their Wedding Anniversary also meant:

EXAMS.

Fast forward to days of being a student teacher, then teacher, post-grad university student and then university tutor/marker and there it is again, November AND Exams.

I could never admit I enjoyed any exam. I am someone who finds it hard to remember everything and under pressure to regurgitate and recall. However, thank goodness for being someone who was satisfied to ‘pass’ rather than gain any further merit up the line. I didn’t mind essay or short answer questions because I could use my words and hopefully convince the marker I knew something.

My least favourite exams were in Maths and Science (not my best subjects ever!) but at least you got marks for showing how you worked. That’s what they said anyway. And, the ubiquitous multiple choice exam. No. Did.Not.Like.

I failed one exam at teacher’s college and it cost me. I was only allowed to be a conditionally-certificated teacher when I started until I re-sat the exam within my first years of teaching. The humiliation was high but I managed to pass that time. And get the full certification. The subject: Science.
