Taking Stock #2. 18/51#LifeThisWeek. 47/2019.

Taking Stock #2. 18/51#LifeThisWeek. 47/2019.

It’s that time again folks, which comes around every 9 weeks on the blog for #lifethisweek. Taking Stock originated with Pip here and I thank her for that. I have amended the list recently. I hope you enjoy what I’ve been up to. I look forward to reading your post, if you have also ‘taken stock.’

Making: so many little cakes. Maybe I am ‘fooling’ myself making them tiny but I look at it this way, I feel less guilt and small still has lots of icing!

Cooking: see above. And as well, quite a few meat meals in small serves for both me and my husband. I prefer a batch cook and freezing the meals. Recently it’s been sweet & sour chicken, slow cooked lamb shanks and sausages/bacon in tomato and gravy base. And pies.

Drinking: my daily double shot latte ( seen as a model for the meme for this post)

Reading: I start so many books (non-fiction) and have yet to finish them. Megan Blandford’s book is one. Go Megan for sharing the story of your post-natal depression.

Wanting: as I write, less pain in the parts of my upper mouth which are tight. So tight. However by the time you read this, it will likely be gone.

Looking: at the wonderful awards won by my favourite Aussie fiction writer at the recent publishers’ awards. Go Trent Dalton and Boy Swallows Universe.

Playing: a game I liked in 2017 and enjoying it again. Not strictly a game but an app called Elevate and it’s a brain-training one and I love me a personal challenge. Back at it. It’s a paid annual one but they had 40% off so snapped it up.

Wasting: enough time – too much I mean – considering how much I have added weight to my body since I can eat….properly and well…..and being more kind to myself as I learn more about mindful eating vs mindless eating!

Wishing: that cancer was cured. Eradicated. Gone. Done. Two friends ( one on-line and one I have met) have died far, far too young in the past 2 weeks.

I am so sorry @curlypops  and @t_to_the_racy your time here ended too soon.

Enjoying: some quality time with my husband as we have made it our practice to go out once a week somewhere different for morning tea.

Waiting: for not much. That is a good thing!

Liking: the fact that we live in a very modern house, the lease has been extended till April 2020 and we are content with that.

Wondering: what this year will bring to our family and relationships. Nothing mysterious in this. Just wondering as when your kids are adults and some of  their kids are adults, you can get some news about all kinds of things.

HB to SM! A while back but I will never forget the day this beautiful butterfly joined our family!

Loving: that relationships made with our grandchildren in their early and formative years, translate into memories made even if we do not see them frequently, they have our love embedded in them.

Hoping: that the rotten   federal election is over with a clear result one way or another. Please.

Marvelling: at nature. Always. These flowers were in pots last May. I planted them in the very small garden out the back when they stopped flowering and now, it’s May and here they are! Again.

Needing: to remember self-compassion before self-blame and it’s getting better. It really is. I highly recommend as I have written before: Dr Kristen Neff’s work.

Smelling: coffee. It is aromatic. Love it.

Wearing: more tops with sleeves, so it must be getting cooler!

Following: my education tweeps and their schools and being so proud of what public education in N.S.W. is doing for ALL kids.

Noticing: that I am far less reactive generally. Not always but better! And I always realise “oh” and think, that could have been a better way to respond.

Knowing: I am loved. Not much more needed is there?

Thinking: How fortunate I am to have been treated by the best every professional team when I was diagnosed with my Head and Neck Cancer almost 2 years ago.

Feeling: gratitude. And for the next few weeks on the blog, will be posting about Gratitude on Tuesdays and linking up here.

Bookmarking: so many of my real books. Sigh. I love getting them. I just need to actually read them as well.

Opening: a parcel from Ebay that I did not recognise then realising I knew exactly what was inside.

Smiling: at so much these days and with so many people because I CAN smile

I hope that your weeks have been wonderful.

I hope for sunshine and warmth and rain too….it’s needed!

Very soon, on this blog, I am starting a series called Women of Courage. Each Wednesday. It promises to be a very interesting series judging by those whose words I have already received. Thanks to all.

Have a great week.

Denyse.

Taking Stock 3. #LifeThisWeek 27/52. 2018.55.

Taking Stock 3. #LifeThisWeek 27/52. 2018.55.

When each 9th week comes around I sit for a bit before completing Taking Stock. I like to do the prompts all at once.

This snapshot was completed on Friday 29 June 2018.

I never look at previous ones before completing the current one as I do not want to be reminded.

I will do that perhaps after this is published as I do like to see my changes and also what stays the same.

Thanks again to Pip for her prompts. She blogs here.

Making: plans for creating 100 mandalas in one book by the end of 2018.

Cooking: fried rice – a family favourite by itself or as a meal accompaniment.

Drinking: coffee – double shot 3/4 small latte has taken over from the piccolo

Reading: Kylie Ladd’s The Way Back. Kylie is an Australia author who I support 100% and have met twice.

Wanting: cancer treatments to be D.O.N.E. but understanding not for quite a while yet.

Looking: outside and up…to the sky. I love clouds

Playing: Four plus – on the Ipad. My husband has a record of over 1300…me, just under 700. We are NOT competitive. Much.

Wasting: time on the phone to News Ltd and Fairfax to let them know their new delivery system by a private contractor is NOTHING like the one from the Newsagency.

Sewing: I actually did some sewing when a woollen thread on my new cardi got caught in my purse. My husband snipped it free, which then unravelled that section. Found the sewing basket and some thread and pulled it together but it’s now a ‘wear at home cardi’. A before-shot.

Wishing: that everyone with cancer is cured and the cancer is long gone as a disease. Doing my bit to contribute to those patients who are gifted a Big Hug Box by making bookmarks. Want to know more? Here’s the link.

Enjoying: my drives to wherever when I get to play my music, my podcasts or audible books

Waiting: for a parcel to arrive. If I dared go out, it would arrive, right?

Liking: this time in our lives

Wondering: how my 19 yo granddaughter will go surviving a full Winter seasons where she is working and living now with her boyfriend

Loving: life. It’s alright isn’t it?

Hoping: that more people are kinder to everyone they meet because as it is said “you never know what battle they may be waging.”

Learning

Marvelling: the resilience of my plants and flowers. Just a bit of water and some sunshine, along with some pruning and away they go again to delight me.

Needing: to remember how much I am loved and cared for, always.

Smelling: betadine, under my nose, where the teensy tiny hole is still there in a minor way (after 4th surgery, a stitch was placed there with the skin graft, and the first change of stent back in May, pushed the stitch out and small fissure appeared. We are hoping it closes by itself or it means… 5th surgery.

Wearing: my faves of jeans, navy striped top and navy lace ups.

Following: Hannah Gadsby’s story. I saw her Netflix performance and was “blown away”. Links here.

Noticing: that I can have the most wonderful and generous friend in Linda who sent this to me…overwhelmed by her generosity and thoughtfulness, let alone the hard work to get this to completion.

Knowing: I have lots of people who care about me and for me and it is just great.

Thinking: I need to get some more freckles (see coffee pic if unfamiliar with this Aussie choccie) today as they have become my latest comfort food

Feeling: That the anniversary of my 1st Surgery coming up on Friday will be a great reminder to me of how far I have come.

Bookmarking: Chris O’Brien’s book “Never Say Die”. I read it ages ago and gave it away, now as a patient in the hospital he dreamed of but his wife, Gail saw it come true I want to read it again so have it as a library copy.

Opening: mail. I still love opening mail.

Giggling: more smiling broadly (without top teeth) at our sweet granddaughter who face timed us with her Dad on her fifth birthday. We will celebrate with some cake in the school hols.

Have you taken stock recently or this week for the link up?

It’s always fine here to add an old post or new, on or off prompt too.

All are welcome!

Share Your Snaps 5. 25/52. #LifeThisWeek. 2018.51.

Dear Readers and Fellow Bloggers,

THIS is our fifth ‘share your snaps’ and….takes us almost to being HALF-way through 2018.

Didn’t we just post our ‘words and intentions’ for the year ahead?

Please tell me it’s not just me who thinks T I M E is a-flying!! Oh, and it is June equinox this week: longest nights for us in the southern hemisphere, longest days for those in the  north!

Beach Writing by Me! Not right now, though ’tis a bit cool!

Sharing My Snaps here for the fifth time as a prompt was a bit of a challenge: what NOT to post! So I did this instead. A quick update of what I have been up to recently, then more below.

If you would like to know more about Head and Neck Cancer & the support from BeyondFive via their Facebook page, here’s more: LIKE their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/beyondfiveorg/

Now: My Share Your Snaps: From a visit to the Hawkesbury River after coming off the Bridge on the M1 to (use the loo, as is tradition) have a break from the drive home from Westmead (done twice in 4 days!) on Friday afternoon.

Are you familiar with this place? For me it has significance in that it is the first stop…if I need one, on the way HOME to the Central Coast…or the last stop …on the way to SYDNEY! The drive on the M1 used to scare me…I wrote about that a long time ago here. and here .

Once I met that challenge once, twice…then I was fine.

I’ve been taking myself to all of the Westmead Prosthodontist visits since early March. My husband drives us to the Lifehouse appointments as he either needs to be there for me post-surgery or he wants to be part of the consultation.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my snaps of late…and I look forward to seeing yours too if you have shared.

Thanks for joining in and reading too.

Denyse.

Alicia has a Monday link up called Open Slather here and I join in there too.

Taking Stock. #LifeThisWeek 18/52. 2017.62.

Taking Stock. #LifeThisWeek 18/52. 2017.62.

At the ninth week for each group of #lifethisweek prompts I will continue to use Taking Stock. Feel free to adapt or amend your taking stock list as some do. Thanks to the blogger extraordinaire Pip Lincoln I am taking her words from Taking Stock to form this post.

Making : More time for learning as I am obsessed by learning more about what makes me (and the rest of us humans) tick

Cooking : Batch-meals again. It must be almost winter! Dad got some last week for the freezer. That makes me feel good.

Drinking : Water and tea. No more coffee or soft drink. Just doesn’t sit well with my gut issues so I am not complaining.

Reading: See above: making! Books by Pema Chodron as I listen to her CDs I always find I want to check out what she wrote too.

Trawling: Realestate dot com dot au with NO hope of buying anything but getting sad about how big the prices of houses are. Bad news.

Wanting: To be settled in our own affordable house one day. I hope.

Looking: Up at the sky every single day. It never fails to impress me.

Deciding: That going for a walk is better for feeling anxious than sitting feeling anxious. So I do.

Wishing: That everyone in my family stays well, happy and contented. Sigh. Big wish. Is anyone actually like that these days? Oh yes. My hub.

Enjoying: Watching the garden grow. Seriously. Every day a new flower pops. It’s wonderful.

Waiting: To go back to the dentist and see what he has to say about the gum problems that have remained even after the teeth were removed.

Liking: The rhythm of my days in retirement more now than I have done before.

Wondering: If Donald Trump might get sick of being president and give it away because he said ‘it’s harder than I thought.’

Loving: How much my husband is enjoying series of a range of shows on Netflix. It’s good seeing him relax!

Pondering: How old age (really old age!) will affect us both and then trying not to spend more time pondering because it is an ‘unknown.’

Listening: To birdsong in the mornings when I wake. It’s joyful.

Considering: That I will have to actually go to the shops soon….

Buying: because I will need to buy new jeans which fit me. Last year’s size 16 are falling down. I know. It’s a good thing, right?

Watching: myself in the mirror and wondering ‘how much weight I have lost’ because I have yet I still find it confronting as I wasn’t dieting.

Hoping: my husband’s trip down memory lane this week goes very well and he arrives back home safely with stories to share.

Marvelling: at the way nature just keeps on keeping on and never stops to feel worried/anxious/angsty as we sometimes do.

Cringing: anyone who puts down another person in real life or via social media. Not. On.

Needing: a hug every day because a hug increases my oxytocin (feel good) and that is a win.

Questionning: how people cannot see that our country is fast becoming divided into haves/have nots and I am not comfy with that at all.

Smelling: the cut onion that is in the bin needing to go outside.

Wearing: a different outfit to the one from this morning as it was cold and now its warm. Casual pants, light top, bare feet!

Noticing: that this Taking Stock has quite a positive and changed view. Go me.

Knowing: that things do get better in time…it’s just hard for those of us impatient people to do the waiting and changing.

Thinking: a little too much so it is called over-thinking and I can be guilty of ruminating so I need to check the thinking more.

Admiring: those like my husband who can stay ‘in the now’ on a regular basis.

Getting: there…at staying more in the moment!

Bookmarking: so many pages and chapters in so many books. I even make the bookmarks out of my paintings!

Opening: myself to new views and approaches as I continue to learn more to make me a contented person.

Closing: as much as I can..some parts of the past. What can I do about it? Nothing!

Feeling: that my body is a bit sore in places but it still gets me up and going and I am very grateful for that.

Hearing: music and meditations via CD and apps each day and each night as I drift off to sleep.

Celebrating: a growing confidence within me as it has been lost for some time.

Pretending: that I can get over past hurts. I do try. They still hurt but less so I guess.

Embracing: life.

What I noticed here is how much my ‘affect’ is moving towards more acceptance and positivity. I re-read my previous two taking stock posts and it was interesting to note! This is a GOOD thing.

How has your week been?

Did you decide to take stock for today’s link up?
