Farewell and Hello. 2018.128.

Farewell and Hello. 2018.128.

Farewell.

In around 2011-2012 (memory fades!) I found a blog on line and one where there was a link-up called I.B.O.T. What the? But I was/am a senior blogger (by age!) and I had to find out more. My blog, back then was a hybrid of education posts, personal posts and photo-centred posts. I was led to Jess (or EssentiallyJess as she became known) site and read that

I.

B.

O.

T.

means “I blog on Tuesdays.”

There was more to this story, I thought so I made enquiries. Jess, in her kindness AND wisdom thought Tuesdays back then were a little light on for link-up parties and she thought of a new link-up with RULES! The rule was the post linked up needed to be a NEW one, not posted before anywhere else, and you needed to get in fast as the link up closed within 24 hours.

You see, there were already link ups in Australia on Mondays, Wednesdays (wordless anyone?), Thursdays were about being thankful and Fridays was a round-up first hosted by Al Tait and then taken over by her sister Bron Maxabella and others. The weekend round up last all weekend. In the years after came more linkups and soon we were spoiled for choice. But Tuesdays remained steadfast: only a blog post published that day and new.

Around 2015-2016 Jess had more on her personal plate than many as she had already begun courses and study which would take her in a different direction, and she reluctantly but gratefully took up Kylie’s offer to take on I.B.O.T.

Now, as happens, life changes, as do needs and directions for blogging vs working and this today, is the last link up for

I.B.O.T. ever.

I will miss it personally and as a blogger. I was part of the team for both Jess and Kylie called #teamIBOT. This was to help, initially, with comments as the link up sometimes got over 100 bloggers!! In recent months, it has reduced to 1/10th and is an indication of blogging changes.

So, to those who have continued to blog on Tuesdays, there are still other link ups here with Sue & Leanne for those in midlife and with Leanne here on Thursdays.

My link-up is returning in 2019 and I look forward to continuing what I like to do best, connect with others!

Thank you Jess and thank you Kylie…and to my fellow bloggers and #teamIBOT members.

Hello!

This is going to wait till next week…..because I want it to have its own space!!

Can you wait?

I hope so.

I will add a hint: I looked like this when I announced my news!

Denyse.

Joining with Kylie here for the final time…and with Sue & Leanne here for, what I hope will be a link up which continues into 2019.

  1. Link ups are where I’ve met some of the best people ๐Ÿ™‚ And then been lucky enough to meet some in person too.

    • Yes, they are indeed. I was so fortunate to attend the first Aussie bloggers conf in Sydney in 2011, and then was a speaker at the 2012 one in Melbs. In between I went back to Melbourne twice for Nuffnang and Pro Blogger and then to a Nuffnang Sydney one. Met so many people who are my friends, here and IRL. Were you at any of those I wonder? I toyed with the idea of a ProBlogger in Qld but couldn’t justify the cost as I was already retired.

  2. I will miss it too. I get up early every Tuesday and write my post. I think I still might but need to find more link-ups to share my work on. I loved IBOT when it was pumping and so many visitors. I used to write a blog with my teenage daughter – now she has just completed Year 12… WT??

    • I so remember that blog too. My link up will still be there and also it’s on from early Monday to late Wednesday. Prompts are optional.

It does get hard to spread the blog without link ups I think, so that is why I am happy to continue for the connections.

  3. Great post Denyse. Its sad that IBOT is finishing up, its the end of a blogging era! I was late to the IBOT party, and joined up a few months before Jess handed the reigns over to Kylie. Its been a great way of connecting with other bloggers and sharing our posts. I have been a member of quite a few linkys over the past 9 years, and feel as though they are becoming a thing of the past which is sad as it has been lovely to be a part of a blogging tribe!

    • Yes I hear you and there were so many more linkys. I started this one on Mondays when Kirsty decided to stop hers called I Must Confess because her work on the blog was taking her down a different path.

I will continue in 2019 so there is that as an option too.

  4. Iโ€™m a fairly new arrival to IBOT and itโ€™s sad to see it go. Would have been great to be part of it back in its heyday. Lovely to have met all of you IBOT ladies!

    • Oh Bella, I understand. You just arrived and then, boom, it’s over. It was a stalwart for a long time. My link up on a Monday continues here in 2019 and you are very welcome there.

  5. IBOT was where I found so many Aussie bloggers some years ago and it’s sad it has come to an end. At the same time, it’s a community I continue to follow. I hope to be more active with your link up next year! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yes, it is about the Aussie bloggers isn’t it? Finding many many link ups in US was all very well for me but they never seemed to make connections. It was just about adding your blog.

This was the difference with IBOT and why Jess asked for helpers! It was sometimes over 100! Wow.

Look forward to next year, I have some ideas for optional prompts but I am sticking with every 5 weeks as photo-based one, and every 9 or so weeks, Taking Stock.

I blog to connect…with the blogging community!

  6. All good things must come to an end and IBOT was a very good thing! Tuesdays just won’t be the same! On the flip side (and there is always a flip side) I hope to be able to link up with you more regularly on Mondays in the new year!

    • Thanks Sammie, over the past year I guess, it has been evident how few people are blogging regularly as they used to. And that is life. Some who blogged are branching out into writing books, studying and finally making the career happen.

Blogging sure is/was a way to meet new people I otherwise would never have know and why I am always grateful for my blog.

Look forward to seeing you link up on Mondays more too. The routine of a photo-based post each 5th weeks continues and taking stock every 9th or so week.

  7. It’s sad to see IBOT go, it was one of the first link ups I participated in and how I got to know so many other bloggers when I first started. But I know I will continue to follow many of those bloggers and it will encourage me to re-think and change my own routine, maybe for the better! Hopefully that will mean I can start to link up with you more often on a Monday in 2019!

    • That is true about memories of how we got to know each other isn’t it?

It’s been great having you as part of my #teamIBOT world each Tuesday.

I am glad you will continue to blog and I hope to see you on Mondays!!

  8. Unfortuntately all good things must come to and end. Who know what new good things are waiting for you. Looking forward to more adventures from you. #MLSTL Shared on SM

    • Yes indeed, and knowing when to stop can be hard but in this case, it was timely as so few people were taking part in this link up.

Yes, it served us well and its purpose.

      Now, onward!

      Thanks Jennifer,

  9. I’ve tried several link ups since I started blogging 4 years ago Denyse and because I’m a ‘boots and all or not at all’ person, I actually at one point was hosting 3 link ups each week. I’ve met some lovely bloggers but now only host #MLSTL (thanks for the shoutout), your Monday link and Lovin’ Life Link. I always look forward to your prompts. Thanks for sharing and being part of #MLSTL and have a beautiful week. xx

    • Thank you Sue. I participated in many too but realised it was my energy I needed to preserve beyond blogging.

I am pleased you and Leanne have MLSTL as I tried to connect with some US link ups and they were not as good (for me) at our Aussie ones.

Yes, continuing in 2019 and already my mind is turning over optional prompt ideas.

Leanne’s linky is a good one too so I will decide in 2019 whether it’s 2 posts a week or up to 3. Sometimes I have to write a spontaneous post as I did on the weekend so that is cool.

Always glad to join you and I may not get around to more than about 3-4 blogs but I like the connections.

  10. It’s sad when things end – especially when they have been so instrumental in helping people. I didn’t participate in IBOT very often, as I was just too stretched with other things, but I knew about it via the grapevine. I have made friends from other linkys I’ve become engaged with, and they are such a great way of getting to know other bloggers, how they think, how trends are changing, what they’re up to in their lives, as well as find out answers to the various life challenges which we all face. I will try next year to participate in your link-up Denyse, as I think it’s a great one ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ™‚ #MLSTL

    • Thank you Johanna for your thoughtful comment. I joined in that linky and others I mentioned as I certainly was not a Mummy Blogger but one who blogged to connect after retirement.

The people I have met in real life now via blogging is amazing. As a teacher I would never have met and now connected regularly with people from all over Australia with a smattering of those overseas.

Remember my Monday linky is optional prompts so link up as you wish.

      Thanks for your support too!

      Denyse x

  11. Hi Denyse – I’m sure it’s a sad day in the blogging world for the Tuesday blog share to wind down. Thanks for sharing the link to MLSTL that Sue and I co-host. It’s a fantastic group of midlifers and I’m really glad you’re a part of it. I also look forward to sharing in your Monday link up again next year. Link parties are a great way of getting to know other bloggers and being proactive.
MLSTL – I’ve shared this on my SM ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks so much Leanne as you have summed up what blogging is about for me. Getting to know people. As a retired teacher there were few opportunities to socialise and blogging opened up new friendships for me. I have met so many people now in real life thanks to blogging.

Great to know you will pop across to my linky as I do to your’s and Sue’s.

      Thank you for MLSTL

  12. Denyse, I’m loving the link-ups that all seem to originate in Australia! I had not heard about that one, and it is sad to see it end. But so many products have shorter life-cycles these days as people change interests. Good luck with your link-uo! And yes, visiting via #MLSTL

    • Thanks Pat. It was one of the original link ups in Australia. Blogging did not kick off in a big way at all till 2010-2011 in Australia. We had our first conference back in 2011. Everyone was so pleased to be able to meet up with those they met on-line including me.

BlogHer conference in US attracted a few of our Aussie bloggers and they attended but our world is so different here in Australia what was happening in US did not fit.

I must add more people who used to blog continue to connect via Instagram these days as well.

      Denyse x

  13. I must admit I never knew about this IBOT linkup! I enjoy your #lifethisweek and #mlstl linkups as I get to read and meet so many great bloggers! Visiting from #mlstl and always enjoy reading your posts, whenever you post them ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Interesting isn’t it? It came about via many Aussie bloggers getting into the scene in 2010-2011 and there was a link up a day if I recall. Most were stay at home mums looking to connect with others. There was also a push back then to do sponsored posts, have PR people approach for blog opportunities. I did some of those things, even got sponsored to attend a blogging conference by the company The Sticker Family. Car stickers. I soon found out my teacher heart is not one which can comfortably blog to flog a product and it is also not something I want to do as it would keep me tied to a company or a position.

      Denyse x

  14. Awww! I just discovered link-ups, so I will join yours if you bring it back! I’m a tad “young,” but I have really connected with the midlife-blogger crowd.

    #mlstl

    • Thanks Bethany. Mine is every Monday and is not age-specific. It is called Life This Week so any topic and old posts or new. I offer optional prompts which some bloggers like to use as a writing stimulus.

The timetable is up on the homepage for Mondays and here:
ONE post per blogger: new or previously published. Prompts are optional!

      2018 PROMPTS:

      50/52. Share Your Snaps 10. 10/12/18.

      51/52. Christmas. 17/12/18.

52/52. Free Choice! We Made It! 24/12/18.

      YESโ€ฆ. #LifeThisWeek will return in 2019!

      1/51. Hello Again. 7/1/19

      2/51. โ€œWord/Intention/Nothingโ€ 2019.. 14.1.19.

of course, Sue & Leanne has their MidLife Share The Love linky.
