A Favourite Post in 2016. #LTW1/52. 2017.2.

Welcome to Life This Week 1/52.

I like to have a numbering system of sorts, and this one will work as Life This Week will run for the year of 52 weeks!

Little blurb about my post numbering system:

I am someone  also needs to know which blog post was done when and in 2015 it was ‘easy’ with one post a day for 365…my system was 1/365 and so on. 2016 brought me a change of order of numerals, and because of the leap year I went with 366/1. Good. Now…this year. I am numbering the posts with the date then a dot. Why? Because to me, 2017/1 looked like I was going to post (potentially) 2017 of them (no, not likely!!) …and if I went with ’17…then that just looked strange. So, bear with me and this longish explanation of someone who can confuse even herself.

Now, where was I?

Prompt: A Favourite Post in 2016.

I reviewed back to the middle of the year (give or take) and found a post about gratitude. It needs another airing I decided because we all know that with a bit more gratitude, the world becomes a nice place! I wrote a few posts on Wednesdays – my day for Health and Mindfulness topics – that  generated fewer comments, so I am nominating it for new reading and some bloggy comments to kick off the first week back of LIFE THIS WEEK.

About Gratitude :  Here is the link.

Whether you have written to the prompt or not, thank you for reading, linking up and commenting!

Next week’s prompt is about your word for 2017 if that’s something you are into, or your thoughts on the year ahead…or your intentions. I wrote about my new idea for this yesterday.

Denyse.

Happy New Year to my blogging link-up friends Alicia here at One Mother Hen for Open Slather each Monday and to Kell, a busy mum and traveller, who blogs here at All Mum Said and on Mondays hosts Mummy Mondays! Go visit them too. Make new bloggy connections!

  1. Happy New Year, Denyse!

The new post numbering system for 2017 sounds great.

Thanks for revisiting gratitude in today’s post. A timely reminder for me.

    SSG xxx

    • Happy New Year SSG! May 2017 be filled with all that makes you happy.
I am glad the gratitude post resonated. I started doing my gratitude journal again yesterday intending to write in it every day. Wish me luck!
So glad you ‘get my system’ for numbering…I am a teacher, I HAVE to have a system!!

      Denyse xx

  2. Thanks for the great prompt this week Denyse, it’s allowed me to revisit my penchant for toilet humour.

I love your gratitude post and I can say that I’m also grateful for crunchy peanut butter on toast! I’m going to try to do some of this in a journal this year. Wishing you all the best for 2017 for you and your husband xx

    • Ha Kat! Toilet humour you say..I will read with interest. The gratitude thing is something we ALL need to be more aware of. Even thinking about being grateful and what we might be grateful for helps our brain recalibrate towards the positive according to research I read recently. If you want the article I can email it to you!
Thanks for your good wishes…and hey, enjoy your trip that’s coming up!!
      Denyse xx

  3. I love the sound of that app. Gratitude is something I’m not great at practising, but I suspect it makes the difficult days much less difficult – perspective is a true great thing! As usual, not following the prompt (yes, I’m such a rebel), but will do so next week…promise…

    • Thanks Joanne, the app is great. Your comment points out to me just how we are ‘almost too hard’ on ourselves in terms of achievement, busy-ness and life…and YES, this is me transitioning away from this. Learning to be grateful can mean, for me, looking outside and noticing which plant has sprouted some new petals. You had some gratitude last week for empty buses!!
Rebels are accepted..as long as they are kind and comment here..my bloggy pay-off is comments…I hope this year brings all you want for the better…Denyse x

  4. Hi Denyse! Happy New Year to you and I’m happy to be linking up with you again for the first linkup of 2017. I’ve linked up an older post that I wrote about Gratitude and it still remains current for me. I’ve never heard of the app you mentioned in you post but it is a good reminder isn’t it? We start out with good intentions of writing things down and then sometimes life gets in the way and we forget. I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts in 2017. Have a lovely day xx

    • Thank you Sue, and Happy New Year to you and yours. I use apps a LOT..I am what they call an ‘early adopter’ with technology buying my first iphone in 2009 and I used some of my apps helping the ESL kids learn English. I tend to find an app for most things I enjoy doing and learning about.

I am considering opening a secret FB group for us ‘senior’ women who are part/fully retired to have some conversations and sharing a space for just us. Let me know via email if you have any interest in knowing more…denyse@denysewhelan.com.au Denyse x

  5. I’m planning on doing the gratitude jar thing this year. I’ve tried prompts on Instagram or putting things in a journal but if I can write something when it occurs to me and put it in a jar then I think I’ll be better at the follow through.

I’m linking up today but couldn’t really identify ONE post so have had a bit of a think about my blogging in 2016.

    • I definitely think whatever you do it’s what works for you. I did a jar thing then forgot about it..I need visual reminders more than anything and I do my ‘blog’ and ‘art’ things in 2 different places. The phone app is always with me and I copy it for post in a private wellness group I belong to. That also keeps me on track.
I could have linked more than one post, but I went to this one as a reminder for me (and readers!) and because it had only 2 comments back then.
Have a great week ahead. Denyse x

  6. Happy New Year! I kept a gratitude journal for a little while but I must admit I was a bit slack at keeping it up!

    • Happy New Year Anne! It ebbs and flows with me..the remembering bit I mean. This year I have a little reminder on my phone and to the left of me on a card (near where I blog!) to remind me. I reckon you would be grateful every day that you get to explore this wonderful country of ours! Denyse

  7. I dunno, I reckon you could hit 2017 posts this year 😉

  8. Thank you again Denyse for your positive start to 2017 with gratitude. I am certainly grateful for many things in my 55 year history. Somethings I could do without. But I am grateful for discovering blogging where I’ve found a whole new world of people. It was you, who helped get my start when I was floundering about coming to terms with new words, new concepts when I was creating my own web page for my blog. In your calm manner you explained a few things to me to help me make sense of things. So thank you, 2017 is off to a great start.
P.S. Also I chose one of my past ‘Health & Wellbeing’ blogs which touched a lot more people than I thought possible.

    • How lovely of you to share that with me Maria. I am very appreciative… thank you. When I started blogging over 6 years ago I needed all the help I could get and some of those people are still blogging and its a great community. Thanks for your supportive comments too. They make my day! I hope 2017 is kind to you. Denyse x

  9. I will be getting the kids to do gratitude jars this years. I think it will be great for them to start seeing the good in everything and reminisce about their adventures and joys at the end of the year.

Thanks for linking up with All Mum Said for #MummyMondays.

    • That sounds like a great plan. There IS much to be grateful for and the article I read last night (after posting this!) says even thinking about being grateful is helpful to our minds and bodies. Looking forward to sharing Mondays with you again in 2017! Denyse x

  10. I started a gratitude journal on Jan 1 last year. Mine too was an App, a free one though. I kept it up for about 3 months, which is quite an achievement for me! I did benefit from it. You’ve inspired me to try again. I do agree that focusing on all that is good in our lives is so important especially in the world we live in today. Happy New Year Denyse. xx

    • Thank you dear Shauna! I read that even thinking about what we are grateful for is important to our well-being and that writing it is just another part of it. Maybe each day, just to look up at the sky and feel grateful for the beauty is one way for us ‘who get busy’ people. Thank you for coming by in 2016 and now 2017. I look forward to our continuing on-line chats! Denyse x

  11. Happy New Year! I’ve linked up my most popular post for 2016 which is also my favourite because it seemed to touch so many people. I hope to write many more like it in 2017. BTW, yesterday was my 6th blogging anniversary and I didn’t even celebrate – bad blogger!

    • Happy New Year and Happy Blogging Anniversary Kirsty! I never have one of those because I ummed and ahhed my way via the first blog..added a few more…took them away..and now this. I have blogged since December 2010 so I guess I am a wee bit older than yours! Not by much!! Denyse x

  12. Hi Denyse and thanks for kicking off the new year with a link up – I’m looking forward to next week’s when we get to share our word for 2017. Meanwhile I linked up about becoming an Ambivert because it was a fun post that I really enjoyed writing. xx

    • I am glad you linked up and it is good to get going for the year! I will be very interested in your post. I suspect I will learn a bit about me too.Denyse

  13. Happy New Year Denyse! I love how you blog every single day! Interesting numbering system 🙂 Bet it must get hard with the daily blogging! 😀

    • Thanks Sanch! This year, and as of Nov 1 last year, I ‘released’ myself from the daily blogging practice. I am glad too. This year, I will post each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and some Fridays and on Sundays. I do like to link up too and chat with others! My numbering system is OK..if I get it, that will be all that matters, right? It’s to keep me on track !!

  14. I think you’ve confused me!! lol

I’ve yet to work out what my word is. I had a think about in the car yesterday, but still didn’t come up with anything.

I remember doing a gratitude post through IG a couple of years ago, and it really helped to remember three things to be grateful for in my day, however small they were. I have thought lately that it would be good to revisit it, maybe it is a good direction to go for my word of the year x

    • Oh I confuse myself too…but I ‘had’ to have something for numbering (teacher!) ….so if it works for me, and I remember it, then the numbering system should be OK for each blog post.

I will call each Life This Week 1/52, then 2/52 etc – again to keep me on track!.

Interesting this word of the year thing…I often forget mine by about March. I will write about that next week. Gratitude sounds like a good one! I will await a post (should you choose to follow the prompt of course!) next week.

      Denyse x

  15. Happy New Years!

I’m intrigued by the word rather than resolutions concept for next week. That’s a thinker!

  16. Happy New Year Denyse! I have linked up a post that I published on 29 Dec that is looking a bit lonely. LOL It’s not a favourite post of 2016. I hope that is ok? Thank you for explaining your numbering system. I might have got confused by it otherwise! lol xo

  17. Happy New Year Min! All posts welcomed and those that need a little more loving even more so. I only wanted to ‘explain’ the number system for me…LOL..Looking forward to connecting more in 2017 too. Denyse xx

  18. Hi Denyse! I am a huge lover of gratitude, and finding things to be grateful for. I created some lovely printables this year to help me do that, and I also discovered a most beautiful website called 365grateful.com. Watching the videos on there, especially the first one on the right about Amy Gill was heartbreaking and uplifting all at once. I recommend the site whole heartedly for anyone interested in gratitude! Happy New Year. x

    • Oh wow. Thank you so much Linda. I am grateful that you have come on over to comment here and to let me know about that website! Happy New Year to you too. Denyse
